The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) on Thursday 12 June 2025 received a delegation from the National Early Warning Center at its headquarters at Bertil Harding Highway. The visit forms part of ongoing institutional engagements to promote peace, stability, and democratic governance in The Gambia.
The delegation, led by madam Binta Singhateh the Director General, was welcomed by the Chairman of the IEC, Vice Chairman Joseph Colley, alongside senior staff of the Commission. Discussions during the visit focused on strengthening collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in areas of electoral risk monitoring, and early warning response.
Both parties emphasized the importance of timely information sharing, capacity building, and joint initiatives that support conflict prevention during electoral cycles. The meeting also highlighted the need for inclusive approaches that ensure the participation of women, youth, and marginalized communities in peace building and democratic processes.
The IEC expressed its appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the National Early Warning Center to safeguard The Gambia’s peace and democratic integrity.
