Chairman, Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), The Gambia

Mr. Joseph Colley is the current Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) of The Gambia, appointed following the retirement of former Chairman Mr. Alieu Momarr Njai. A seasoned electoral administrator, Mr. Colley brings over two decades of experience and deep institutional knowledge to the leadership of the Commission.

Mr. Colley served as Vice Chairman of the IEC from 2021 to 2025. During this period, he played a key role in strategic electoral planning, policy implementation, and oversight of major national elections. His leadership helped ensure continuity, stability, and integrity within the Commission.

Mr. Colley previously served as Director of Communications at the IEC, where he led national public outreach efforts, strengthened media relations, and deepened stakeholder engagement. His work significantly contributed to enhancing the IEC’s transparency, credibility, and visibility at both national and international levels.
